Dave and the Giant Pickle

Dave and the Giant Pickle

Release Date:

March 1, 1996

Review:

Pros:

Larry-Boy's character is introduced for the
first time.

While this episode was made fairly cheaply, it came out looking rather nice.

The story of "Dave and the Giant Pickle" is overall pretty funny.

King Saul's reference to throwing things at a harp-playing Dave.

The French Peas are introduced.

The last several minutes of the "Dave and the Giant Pickle" story are pretty well done, including the fight scene and the celebration scene.

Dave using a slingshot without hands was done pretty cleverly.

Sheep tipping over is pretty funny.

Dave wearing King Saul's armor is pretty funny... and biblically accurate.

In the original version of "Love My Lips" Archibald holds up a picture of Sonny Bono.

The water vibrating in King Saul's glass looks real.

Cons:

The counter-top scenes in this episode are too long and kind of boring overall.

The Sonny Bono picture during the silly song had to be edited out later because of the death of Bono in a skiing accident in 1998. Since then, the picture has been edited several times and has become less and less funny each time a new picture is put in.

This episode only had two new songs.

Several of the character's voices sounded off slightly, and were difficult to understand at times.

King Saul's monocle changes colors from one shot to the next several times.
The supposed lesson of "Dave and the Giant Pickle" is in "self-esteem," however, the biblical story of David and Goliath really has nothing to do with that.
